BENEFITS OF GHEE

Benefits of GHEE

Ghee is one kitchen staple that has incredible healing properties and can be added to various food items such as dals, khichadi, halwa, rice, roti, etc. Replacing ghee with fattening refined oils is believed to be one of the biggest mistakes. Ghee is said to consist of fat soluble vitamins, which aid weight loss. It plays an important role in balancing hormones and maintaining healthy cholesterol. Desi ghee, is ghee made of cow's milk. It contains plenty of omega-3 fatty acids along with Vitamin A.

Ghee has several benefits, of which some are listed below:
1. Keeps you warm: As per Ayurveda, consumption of ghee keeps one warm from within. Therefore, ghee is widely used during the winters, especially for making Gajar ka halwamoong dal halwa, panjeeri, etc.

2. Soothes clogged nose: Any problem related to difficulty in breathing, taste sense being hampered, headache, exhaustion, etc. can be easily cured through Ayurveda. The nasal drop remedy helps to soothe clogged nose. The Nyasa treatment, as the ayurvedic experts call it, involves pouring a few drops of warm pure cow ghee into the nostrils, first thing in the morning. By doing so it may provide quick relief as the ghee travels all the way down to the throat and soothes the infection.

3. Abundant source of energy: According to the book, 'Healing Foods' by DK Publishing House, ghee is a good source of energy. It contains short-chain fatty acids, of which, lauric acid is a potent antimicrobial and antifungal substance. Nursing mothers are often given ladoos made in ghee, since they contain lots of energy.

4. Source of good fat: In order to lose weight, people usually tend to eliminate all fats sources from their diet. Doing so results in causing more harm than benefiting. Fats, carbs and proteins are three macronutrients essential for sustaining a healthy life. Therefore, consuming ghee provides good fat for the body to stay fit and healthy.
5. Good for Intestinal Health: Ghee is one of the highest quality food sources of butyric acid that supports the health of the intestinal walls.

Consultant Nutritionist, Dr.Rupali Datta says, "Ghee can be consumed daily in small quantities as a source of saturated fats. Children can afford to have a larger quantity every day." According to studies ghee is good for lowering bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol.
